How Can You Participate in the Future of Glaucoma Care?
Learn what happens when doctors, patients, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, funders, and regulators share ideas at the New Horizons Forum, a one-of-a-kind innovation incubator.

Steven Vold, MD: This is a very unique meeting, because what it does is it brings innovative doctors, it brings industry executives, and then you also have the venture firms that can actually make these things happen. It really allows for further innovation and really hopefully advances our field and the treatment of our glaucoma patients in a more rapid-fire fashion.

Eydie Miller-Ellis, MD: What makes it different from other ophthalmology meetings is its emphasis on innovation, it’s exciting to see really what the future holds. It makes me a lot more hopeful about the future of glaucoma care because there’s a lot of really exciting technology out there.

Joel Schuman, MD, FACS: So there are so many different things that Glaucoma Research Foundation does. And this meeting is a good example of being a catalyst to join industry and clinicians. And I think that it’s very important that the two camps be able to benefit from each other’s knowledge and skillsets.

Ronald L. Gross, MD: This is a great meeting because normally I’m a glaucoma specialist, and we go to meetings with other glaucoma specialists, and we all talk about things and we have really very little idea of what’s coming down the pike, what’s in the road to development. This is much different in that these were all companies that many of us knew little or nothing about, and they were willing to come forward and give us their ideas and to show what potentially will be coming to the clinical world over the next several years. There’s really no other place that we have that ability to be able to get that look into the future.

Richard L. Lindstrom, MD: I think these kinds of meetings, which we’ve been doing the last few years, where we all are in the same room and the FDA listens to the entrepreneur and the startup company CEO, and then the clinicians and scientists have their input as well, has really helped a lot for us each to understand each other’s challenges.

Eve Higginbotham, SM, MD: One of the things I would encourage anyone out there, who hasn’t been to this meeting, is to really put it on your calendar and consider coming. Because it is an opportunity in a very intimate setting to reconnect with colleagues in a way that is going to generate new ideas as well as potentially new inventions that can change our patient’s lives.
