Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami has been ranked the nation’s “best in ophthalmology” by U.S. News & World Report.
Bascom Palmer has received the #1 ranking at least 13 times and has been amongst the top two ranked eye hospitals in the country since the annual rankings began 30 years ago.
Eduardo C. Alfonso, MD, professor and chairman of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, said: “We are honored to be recognized for this important effort and to be highlighted as the leader in the life-changing and dynamic field of ophthalmology. The well-being of our patients inspires us to continually reach higher and excel in areas of clinical care, vision research and surgical innovation.”
Julia A. Haller, MD, Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at Wills Eye Hospital, said “We are honored and humbled to be named one of the top two eye hospitals in America. It’s a vote of confidence from our respected colleagues and partners in eye care around the nation and a capstone to many years of hard work, thoughtfulness about our mission, and dedication to forward thinking and research.”
The results of the U.S. News ranking is based upon a survey of randomly selected board-certified ophthalmologists nationwide who were asked to identify the nation’s best eye hospitals regardless of location or cost.
Other top-ranking hospitals included Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and the Stein and Doheny Eye Institutes at UCLA Medical Center.
